1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BROUGHAM

The 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham was one of the most important automobiles of the post-WWII era. It combined Cadillac's luxurious chassis, powerful V8 engine and an advanced air-spring suspension with individually-crafted bodies conceived by Harley Earl and individually hand built at Cadillac. The special Eldorado engine had dual four-barrel carbs and was rated 325 horsepower. The 4-door hardtop Eldorado Brougham has suicide rear doors, brushed stainless steel roof and every possible option, accessory and convenience feature. It sold for over $13,000 -- at the time nearly enough to buy a matched pair of Eldorado Biarritz coupe and convertible -- and cost even more to build. Cadillac made only 400 and it was instantly recognized as a classic. This example is one of the best in the world. It had a complete, nut-and-bolt restoration to the very highest standards, a phenomenal expense in pursuit of perfection. Finished in black with blue leather upholstery, matching interior trim and blue Mouton carpets, it is complete in every respect, including the magnetic base shot glasses and lady's vanity. Most Eldorado Broughams have been converted to steel springs but this restoration's quest for perfection was such that the air suspension system has been rebuilt. It appears to have had no use whatsoever in the 7-8 years since the restoration was completed and is ready to be displayed in the most demanding concours. The low production, individual craftsmanship and elaborate equipment of the Eldorado Brougham makes them among the most difficult and expensive of all automobiles to restore.
